Community engagement

As President of the local branch of the Royal Naval Association (RNA), I am already engaging with the local community on a regular basis. Every year we take part in National events such as Remembrance Day and Armed Forces Day parades (in Huntingdon, Godmanchester, and St Ives).

I also attend local events such as the Sea Sunday (support for all seafarers); last year’s service was combined with the St Benedict’s Day church service in St Benedict’s Court, where I was asked to give the First Reading.

Supporting youth associations is also important to me. Huntingdon RNA sponsor a cadet to go to sea for a week on the Sea Training ship, Royalist.

I have also been interviewed on Huntingdon Community Radio in the run up to Remembrance Day, and also to discuss the way our branch work alongside the community.

As a Councillor, I intend to attend civic and community parades that usually do not feature the RNA, but even those that do (for instance, Remembrance Day), I will (if elected) stand alongside the Town Council as your representative of Huntingdon Central. I am proud of my military service and will stand alongside my fellow veterans, but, also as a Town Councillor, I will put the views of the people of Huntingdon first.
