Due to a very busy workload, I stood in for the mayor this morning for one of his regular tasks in hosting some overseas visitors to Huntingdon with a short tour of the town. Beginning with the Town Hall, our visitors were given a talk on the workings of the council and had a chance to look around the civic suite and courtrooms. Walking through town we stopped off at a few historical buildings and sites such as Castle Hill House, the Old Town Gaol, the town Bridge, and the site of Huntingdon Castle. On the way back, I showed our visitors the Falcon, Thinking Soldier and Boer War memorials, All Saints Church and of course, the Cromwell Museum where our curator, Stuart Orme, introduced the history of the museum and Cromwell artefacts on display.
I really enjoyed hosting our guests and think this is an excellent way to give visitors a taste of Huntingdon’s history.
